About Us

It all started with a simple “Hello" to a fellow making a sand sculpture, followed by a definite “Yes" when he offered me the opportunity to have a go. Fast forward a few years and I am now joined by a wonderful team of enthusiastic and hardworking creatives based in West Yorkshire, some of whom you can meet below. We also have an amazingly talented team of freelance artists, sculptors and workshop experts who join us on larger events and busy periods.

Meet the Team

Dave Martin

Dave Martin, Project Leader and Creative

My passion for creativity, the natural world and all things wild is what led me to join Sand In Your Eye from a background in paper engineering, where I designed all sorts of stuff from pop up greetings cards to Christmas crackers.

I‘ve been loving the broad range of substrates and sheer variety in the projects we do here, from the diversity of the clients to the locations we work in.

You’ll mostly find me devising innovative project plans, getting stuck in on a job or in the kitchen rustling up a pie for the team after a hard days work.

Good Times!

Emma Whyte

Emma Whyte, Administrator

You’ll mostly find me in the studio office, dealing with everyday tasks and keeping things running ship shape. When I’m done sending your invoices, I jump at the chance to get involved with our events and learn some new creative skills. Watch out for me in SIYE videos, I’m usually the one pushing a wheelbarrow!

Mark Wilson

Mark Wilson

After meeting Mark as a volunteer on our Fallen 9000 project in 2003, our paths crossed again when we moved our studio to Mytholmroyd. Mark joined the team, working as a freelance member helping in the studio and on events. He is also a volunteer for Mountain Rescue in the Calder Valley.

Liz Warrington

Liz Warrington, Sales, digital and creative

As well as a member of our Sand In Your Eye family, dealing with new enquiries, digital and creative, Liz also is a freelance illustrator based in Hebden Bridge.

Jamie Wardley

Jamie Wardley, Sand Artist

I am a mixed bag with a dose of art, a sprinkle of theatre and an education in Environmental Sciences. I have always tried to do things that bring enjoyment, as I believe if you do, then there is a real chance you will be successful and fulfilled.

All the details sort themselves out in the end and great things happen if you just have a go. This led me to working in ice hotels and international sand sculpture festivals across the globe. When I started making sand art in the UK, Sand In Your Eye was born. I am now joined by a small team that extends to a big family of lovely folk on our larger projects. I count myself to be a very fortunate sand and ice sculptor. Click here to read about how I became a sculptor.

Claire Jamieson

Claire Jamieson

Jamie introduced me to the wonderful world of Sand In Your Eye around 9 years ago, where I was lucky enough to learn sand art. I was so taken with it I decided to leave my full time job in design and a follow a career as a sculptor and land artist. You can find me either on a beach, playing in the sand or in our studio chatting to customers and collaborators. No day is ever the same and I love it!

Who We've Worked With

The people we work with and their motivations for collaborating with Sand In Your Eye are as varied as the colours of the rainbow. These range from charities, local authorities, PR & advertising agencies, music festivals, and television & media broadcasters. Below are but a few examples with links to case studies.
